Biography —
My program of research includes three streams: (1) examining asexuality with regard to asexual identity development, utilization of labels, and comparisons between asexual and other sexual identities, (2) deconstructing consent via perceptions and experiences of consent in nonsexual and sexual contexts and (3) exploring Asian American subgroup’s interface with racial, ethnic, and national identity.
My research focuses on underrepresented and critical perspectives in psychology. I engage with asexual research involving the perspectives and experiences of compulsory sexuality. My work examines asexual identification regarding sexual identity milestones and the impact of gender identity, outness, and experiences of discrimination. I also investigate the understanding and construction of consent beyond sexual contexts. I explore lay-perspectives of the value and function of consent across contexts in addition to empirical investigations as to the interaction of gender and context (sexual v. nonsexual) on perceptions of consent with regard to emotionality, reasonableness, and respect.
